Death of a dishwasher

We're watching the Olympics! Oh did I tell you we joined the 21st century, and now have cable TV? For the first time in our married life, we have cable. It has been .. interesting. I wasn't thrilled with the idea initially. After all, we are trying to get away from electronics consuming all our time. But the Olympics! We can't miss those! But, no that is not the why of  why we got cable. That has more to do with lowering our phone and Internet bill. We 'cut a deal' with the provider, and it included cable TV. So anyway, seeing the sites of London on TV has been fun. My dear husband likes to say, "See that bridge? I've been there" or "I was on that bridge." Now it was fun to hear and think of the first time he pointed it out. But now that it has been about 500 times .. the kids groan when pictures of the famous bridges appear. I just laugh. And dream of the day he might take me there ;) This girl. She's my first girl. She

Finals

We have a time-watcher in the family. And it's a good thing, or we might have missed the swim finals for the kids today! After a late night last night - because the relay races were held then - the older kids were up before their minds were awake. A quick breakfast and out the door to the Big Day. It was our second year of doing this, so we were a little better prepared for the day. We had plenty of snacks, drinks and food to get an army through a day of racing. Of course there were meltdowns. What else can a 2 year old do at noon on a day after only getting 9 hours of sleep?! I went to a (beautiful) wedding last night with my two youngest, while the others were swimming. And we had such a fun time, yet that put us out late at night, getting into bed after 10 pm. So, I sort-of could understand a little melting. Especially since I felt like joining her. The 6 year old .. she also melted .. but not until bedtime, thankfully! here's what we saw at her level .. a lot

A week has passed

That husband of mine ... pretty funny.  So yeah, this week has been hectic, and today I finally have taken a minute to sit in front of the computer and write something instead of sitting and reading or pinning.  Last week, also, lots of fun. We had cousins over, and swim lessons galore. My little Princess M is in morning swim lessons, for the past 2 weeks. It's amazing how just one hour of swimming-watching every morning, can mess up the rest of my day/ week. (We get a break next week. phew!) So our family had their big reunion-shindig last Saturday. This is the cake we entered into the dessert contest - I thought it was a pretty hat. The little girls had too much run playing in the water of my aunt and uncle's backyard. Thankfully the sun was out and my youngest could go around in a diaper until her clothes dried out. She did fairly well without a nap all day too! We had plenty of good food and visitin'  Earlier in the morning my sister in-law a

Only 2 days

We've lived a full week - in 2 days. The kids came home on Monday and the girls decided to make a movie. Oh, have I mentioned we are 'electronic free' for the summer? Thus, the need to make their own entertainment instead of being entertained. It was mainly the girls who developed the storyline and gathered the actors. The idea centered around a murder no less. A cereal murderer. Oh yes, you read that correctly. C-e-r-e-a-l.  Not only entertaining but highly comedic. If I could find the little camera they used I might just be able to blog some of it! So as they were playing around, I took a moment to sit in the hammock and look up, and this is what I saw, for the few seconds I had my eyes off my 2 year old. Lovely. On Monday I got up the courage energy to make a bunch of phone calls I had been putting off. The dentist, the ob, the hair salon, the doctor's office .. and amazingly some of them were able to get me in this week. So that's why I have

The latest in remodeling news ... the room is now orange. The Boy got in there this weekend and painted two walls in a 'pumpkin patch' orange. The playroom next to it is now textured; the hall and stairway are mudded and awaiting the next step (which I would tell you about, but I'm not sure what it is ...) Did I tell you we went to a rodeo last week? We hadn't been to one in about 10 years or so. We packed up the older two kids and joined my in-laws at a rather famous rodeo.   What fun! My son said his favorite was the bareback riders   My mother in-law also hadn't been to a rodeo in years, and she said she had a great time. We all had lots of memories resurface as we watched. There was one rodeo I went to in college, with some friends. What I mostly remember is eating a whole bag of gummy worms, and not feeling so great on the ride home. But this rodeo was much more fun! The garden is growing. Here are some of the potatoes and beans. I ju
