Word of the Week

Image
" Boggin " [bog-gin] -noun; --what you sit on; -- the lowest part of something As in "Get your boggin over here!" Or "Wait til I get to the boggin, Mom! " The word this week comes from my youngest; when she was 3 this was how the word came out of her mouth, and we have incorporated it into our everyday language. It just sounds so much nicer than other words for that body part.

What a Man

How many husbands would spend their anniversary with their in-laws?! My dear husband is a gem! We took off to the coast for our 12th anniversary this past weekend, dragging out 4 lil' leprechauns with us. We did leave the 4 of them at my sister's house though. And then we tooled around the coastline, just enjoying time together alone. Well, as alone as one can be with a million Memorial Day tourists on the coast. We made it back to my sister's house in time to put the kids to bed and visit with my sis and bro. in-law. And the next day we spent the time with them also. And the family picnic in the evening with the extended aunts, uncles, cousins, brothers, sisters, and parents. It wasn't our typical anniversary celebration, but it was fun because we got to be together. He even said so.

Pay attention!

This is what happens when you spend too much time on the computer. Earlier I set some eggs on the stove to boil for hard-boiled eggs, later to add to potato salad. And then i walked away. Big mistake. At this point in my life, my brain does not always recall that there are eggs on the stove! Time went by. i played on the computer; my daughter needed some help elsewhere. My son walked by and I thought, "hmm, something smells. I wonder if my pre-adolescent needs a shower?" And then my husband says, "What smells? There's Smoke!!" And boom it hits me. There are eggs on the stove! No water, just eggs. I need to get off the computer.

Aprons

I am turning into my mother. I wore an apron today to do my work in the kitchen and around the house. Since it is Thursday, I do laundry in between the kids' school lessons. And I needed to whip a batch of cookies for my sister. And I had ironing to do. Plus picking up stuff (the girls needed guidance as they cleaned up their room). So I donned an apron to keep my clothes clean(er) as I did my work. My husband knows how messy I can be when I get going. We have had to scrub spaghetti sauce out of some strange spots after I make supper ! And as I stood there over the ironing board, smoothing the wrinkles out of my husband's shirt, I felt like my mom. And it is a good thing.

Sisters

My sisters are much older than I am. Much. So watching my 3 little girls grow up together has been fun and challenging. I ask myself "Why?" many times as I listen to them. But then I see them hug and cuddle and take care of each other, and a little part of me is jealous. My oldest sister and I now are friends. There was a time we weren't. But now we do things together almost weekly, and we enjoy many of the same things - especially our admiration of Amazing Race and Phil, and CSI's Nick Stokes. Now brothers on the other hand... a whole 'nother story.
