A favorite place

One of my favorite places to be - the coast - and I get to go there this week!
Even though we might have to wear sweatshirts and jeans in the middle of August, it will still be so worth it, to smell the fresh salty air, to feel the cool breezes (and strong winds), to eat the clam chowder, to contemplate life.

    cool - now come visit the OTHER side of that ocean... ok, I guess it's technically the middle area of the Pacific ocean? great, now I have to go look at a map...:) -ann

    Where is that? It looks so lovely. I miss the beach so much. {sigh} The Midwest is so....green. How that can become boring after a while, I couldn't tell ya. It just does.

So here's one picture from my birthday that I *forgot* to put on that post last month. Surprise! I have had mixed feelings about this for some time. But after my first doctor's appointment this week, I am much more positive about this big change in our lives. We finally told our other 4 what was going on. Now they understand, maybe, a little bit more why Mom is always on the couch sleeping. And they are super excited. I don't think they remember what is was like 4 years ago when the youngest was born and made SO much noise... Of course, she still makes a lot of noise, just a different kind.

I made soup from scratch last night. And I followed the recipe (almost) to a "T". I've just figured it out - I cannot follow any recipe exactly . But the only thing I did differently is to leave a spice out, which didn't affect the taste. My husband really likes split pea soup. I have been buying it occasionally in the can for him; but then I came across a easy-looking recipe, bought the dry peas, and waited until I had a ham bone leftover. I have never eaten this kind of soup, it was a first for me and my kids last night. And I loved it! Along with a loaf of yummy homemade oatmeal bread, I was quite satiated by supper. I'll post the recipe over on my recipe pages. And to round out the night, what could be better than watching the kids play Twister? Well, maybe giving them rides on Twister...

Training

I'm back to running again. Although when it is 30 degrees out, it isn't so easy to get motivated to step outside for anything! I started just running 1 mile a day for the first week, and I have finally made it up to 2 miles, without feeling terrible. After the first couple of runs, my arms were so sore .. and it took me awhile to figure out why (along with my sweet husband's suggestion that it came from running/using my arms). But they are back to 'normal' now, thankfully. I have 12 weeks to get in shape for that half-marathon. So I looked at my training for last year, and by this time in January of 2012, I was already up to 4 milers. So it looks like I have some ground to cover quickly. But I am confident that I can do, if I can make sure to stick to a schedule. Even in the ice-cold winter weather. In other exciting news, we bought paint today!
