Inhibitions

I dislike calling people on the phone. I don't even like answering the phone unless it's a family member. Just a quirk about me. (It's ironic that I was a secretary/phone answerer as a job back in the day.) Although in college and high school, I spent hours on the phone - with certain people. All this to say, I have a hang-up (ha ha) with the phone that most of my children do not. My middle child has been begging to call into a radio station that we listen to. They have a joke of the day for kids. We looked it up online and they had something about calling at 5.50 am. Phew - I thought I was off the hook on that one. But no, my girl kept researching it, and got the phone number for the radio station. And asked me politely if SHE could call. My brain said, Why on earth would you want to do that? But my mouth said, "Well, OK, but what are you going to say?" So we practiced a little bit. And she went off to call the radio station. And she did fine. Of course. ...

Letters and phones

What if you sat down at the moment you thought of someone and wrote a long newsy letter about what is going on in your life, and asking questions about their life? Instead of texting, calling, emailing, what if, like Paul in his letters to the churches, wrote how thankful you are for them, and that your prayed for them whenever they came to mind? I used to write a lot of letters. Long before I had a blog I would try to email certain family members, just to keep in touch. Back as a child I had a couple of pen-pals, my cousin being the number one letter-giver/ receiver. But not many people write letters these days. I don't. Even though I want to. I want to sit down and correspond with certain people. And especially with the ones who don't use the computer for all its wonderful technological communication abilities. AND if I did I wouldn't have these embarrassing stories to tell you. I don't text on my phone much. It takes me so long because I don't have the keypad - ...

Hello?

Image
Today I bought myself a new cell phone. Welcome to the age of technology! The phone I did use ( top picture ) was a discard of my husband's. It was one of the first ones he used at work many, many, many years ago. It was continually dialing random numbers because of the bumping and bruising it got in my purse. I liked it because it was so basic, but I was constantly checking to make sure I hadn't dialed China. So today when the 2 youngest girls and I were walking downtown on an errand I passed by a T-Mobile store and thought I would just duck in and see what they had. Ta-da. And here we are: a flip phone (bottom photo) - it won't dial without my help and it even takes pictures! Plus a lot more neat little things, but at least now I won't be calling any Li's across the seas.
