A Few Things

Happy Anniversary to a few special people - my brother and his wife, yesterday; my other brother and wife today, my in-laws tomorrow. Wow! June is a month for weddings! I know there were a number of my friends who married in June too. G and I chose the end of May, just because we're rebels. And because it was a holiday weekend and family could have time to travel there. And because we didn't want to wait until Labor Day weekend. We are heading out for camping next month. Which means I am starting my lists. Yay! Lists make me happy because they keep me focused and organized. But here's a question for you - what to make for supper(s)? Breakfast and lunches are easy for me to come up with for camping. But supper is always a dilemma. So far, I've got chili and rice - one of our favs. But I need to come up with one or two more easy ones. Open to suggestions. Have you heard of Oswald Chambers? He has this great little book called My Utmost For His Highest. Way back in 199...

In My Corner

In my corner of the world this week.... I made pillows. I had two leftover fleece, king sized pillow cases. Instead of spending mucho bucks for pillows, I bought some forms at the fabric store, made a casing with leftover fabric I have had for years, and now the kids have some big pillows to use for reading or watching TV. Feeling crafty and frugal. The girls held a lemonade stand fundraiser for two days this week. They are raising funds to help our friends get to Uganda on a missionary trip. They spent the past couple of days or weeks (?) making little crafty things - jewelry, cards, knitting items; then they set up a lemonade and cookie stand, along with their crafts, to sell to anyone who came by. They even put signs up around the neighborhood to advertise. I love their ingenuity and the fact that they didn't just ask me for money. They thought of this all on their own. I ran for the first time in over a week. Mornings have been just too busy! What!? This is summer, crazy ...

When my girls get a hold of my camera I find numerous, odd photos. But to spare you, I only included a couple of them. here's one of a girl jumping in the air. As my oldest girl explained,   it was hard to get just the right shot. Yeah, I kind of figured that out when I saw all the pictures on the camera. These girls make me laugh. Tonight our two older daughters participated in the regional Awana Bible Quiz here at our church. It was pretty cool to watch, and hear, them answer so many questions about the Bible. They have studied hard, and memorized a ton of Scripture. They also participated last year, but this year.... this year, the oldest girl got 2nd place! Wahoo! And she is going to the State "playoffs" next weekend! Thankfully it is being held locally - at our church! - so I can juggle the basketball games and the quizzing day.   And I came across this scene at Little K's dollhouse earlier in the week: hmm... I wonder if this is what she sees a...

Do Over

Have you ever had one of those days you just want to re-do? Can I get a start over card? Yeah, yesterday was one of those days for me.Well most of it, there were highlights in amongst the low points.  Our dog was sick, so the crate needed some major cleaning. Ick.  Thankfully my son took care of it without complaining! Our dishwasher has gone kaput. So we are now washing by hand every day.  Thankfully my husband thinks he knows the problem and will give it a try to fix it. And I ruined our computer yesterday. It sometimes just turns itself off in the middle of me working. grr . So this time, I thought a ha, I see something that says Recovery F10. So I hit it. Augh,. I wish I could go back and do that over! I would NOT hit that button. It basically erased everything. Everything! All my bookmarks, my beloved pages I go to at the click of a button - gone. All my documents - gone. All my photos - gone. Thankfully, we have backup! Thankfully my photos are on...

5 Then Joshua said to the people, "Consecrate yourselves, for tomorrow the LORD will do wonders among you."  Our pastor had a sermon on the passage of Chapter 3 of the book of Joshua. Good stuff about being prepared. My favorite verse from the whole passage was verse 5. To paraphrase: Prepare yourself and God will do great things! So am I preparing? Am I getting ready? For what? What am I spending my time on? Some great books have also crossed my radar this week; one on Prayer by Philip Yancey; another on burdens called The bumps are what you climb on ; a third called Grace Based Parenting, by Tim Kimmel. I'm focusing on prayer and consistency this new year. For so long I have felt a little overwhelmed by the whole idea of prayer and how/if/why/where/when it works. I've read Stormie O'Martian's books on prayer; and What Happens When Women Pray in the past. But I am a work in progress, so I go to other books on prayer. But then a verse from my Bible study...
