In my corner

Image
In my corner of the world this past week: The Mr. found a new car. I don't know if it will fit all 7 of us   Little K has been a big helper around here. She is nearing 5 yrs old and growing in leaps lately - here is what she wrote (with help!) to her daddy (I will miss you daddy)  She helped make jam this week And she demonstrated her awesome coaching strategies on the whiteboard I've been reading a new author - David Rosenfeldt ; good mysteries and not so scary that I can't sleep at night. Basketball season is winding down. The Boy has one game left (sob) and the girls have about 3 each to go; so I get my fix a little longer.

Warning. Pay Attention

Most vehicles come equipped with warning lights on the dashboard to let you know something is wrong. My husband calls them idiot lights. *Interruption for a side story here* When we were first married G. was teaching me to drive a stick-shift Jeep. I had no choice because it was the only vehicle I had to get to work. So we were driving his parents home one day in our Jeep. He was driving, Dad in the passenger seat, while I was in the back with his mom. A light flashed on the dash, "Shift" and his dad asked about it. My husband said something to the effect of, "Oh that's the dummy light to tell dummies when to shift." And from the backseat my quiet voice tells him, "I use that light."* So I like those little lights on the dash. And yes, people, you should pay attention to them! Earlier in the week, my husband was out of town, and the battery light showed up on the dash of my pick-up. I watched all my gauges, listened for any noises, and when I got hom...

Going Without

I have not driven since Monday morning. Now, that would make sense for me if I was on vacation in a foreign land. But I'm at home. Ive been at home since Monday afternoon - the one afternoon when I thought I would never get home. The pickup wouldn't start in the parking lot of a store. My rescue-hero (aka husband) saved the day, got the pickup to the mechanic and got me home. But then 2 days later he was off to work out of town. And the pickup was in the shop still, because it was starting for the mechanic and they couldn't see exactly what was wrong with it! I'm thankful it was my husband who took the pickup in, because I don't know if they would've believed me. So we've been at home this week. It hasn't been exactly easy either, with children's activities, a boy at school, and with sports and church stuff. I have had to rely on others' kindness to pick up my kids or drop them off. That has been pretty humbling too. On the other hand, I have go...

Just another day

My life is never dull. Oh, sure I have days where not too much happens. But it's never dull. If it isn't my 5 kids and my awesome husband,  then it's the world just outside my doorstep that keeps life interesting. Today I went on my long run. Of course it began to rain as soon as I pulled myself off the couch and put my running shoes on. But I still went. And I made my Boy come along on his bicycle. Because running 9 miles in the rain isn't any fun alone. We had a good time, commenting on the sights as we went along. And then a couple of miles from home, we witnessed an Event. We had just crested a hill, and were coming down the other side when I noticed a man out of his car, with the engine smoking. I saw something underneath it, and it hit my brain that the car was on fire. And we were about 1/2 mile away, so I couldn't yell out to him. So I yelled it to my son. As we watched the young man lift the hood, and we watched the flames leap up, and then he slammed ...

Do Over

Image
Have you ever had one of those days you just want to re-do? Can I get a start over card? Yeah, yesterday was one of those days for me.Well most of it, there were highlights in amongst the low points.  Our dog was sick, so the crate needed some major cleaning. Ick.  Thankfully my son took care of it without complaining! Our dishwasher has gone kaput. So we are now washing by hand every day.  Thankfully my husband thinks he knows the problem and will give it a try to fix it. And I ruined our computer yesterday. It sometimes just turns itself off in the middle of me working. grr . So this time, I thought a ha, I see something that says Recovery F10. So I hit it. Augh,. I wish I could go back and do that over! I would NOT hit that button. It basically erased everything. Everything! All my bookmarks, my beloved pages I go to at the click of a button - gone. All my documents - gone. All my photos - gone. Thankfully, we have backup! Thankfully my photos are on...

Van seats

We are currently in the talks about buying a van. We're looking at our tax return and savings and thinking we might be able to swing it this spring. But before we get that far, we need to figure out just what we need in a vehicle. I would love to have the suburban, but practically we need to stick with a van. Ok, so the stow-and-go is really attractive to me. And I am siding with a bench seat in the middle. Mr G is leaning towards separate 'captain' seats in the middle. What do YOU think? Vote in my poll on the sidebar, and please feel free to leave a comment as to why you think so.
