Stepping stones

I try to do this each year, and I finally remembered this time around. My mom did this back when we were growing up. Of course there were more shoes by the time I got there ... but our 7 pairs works just as well as 12.  At some point my pair are going to be dwarfed by all of them ...

A Holiday

Today is "Parents Day" according to my calendar. So my husband and I decided to take advantage of the day and go out without children. Can I just say how nice it is to have kids that are teen-aged and responsible enough to babysit their younger siblings?! G and I drove to a Nike outlet store to use our special friends and family coupon during their sale. What a madhouse! There were so many people in the store it felt like a Christmas Eve rush. At least there was no fighting over any items, and the people were nice and polite all around the store. G was able to score a pair of running shoes to replace his worn ones. They were on sale, and then we got them marked down another 30%, so we knew we couldn't get a better deal elsewhere. After that we wandered around the outlet center. I used to really enjoy doing this kind of thing. But I have either gotten too old, or too practical or too tightfisted with my money, because I didn't really enjoy the stores. I found a few t...

The Saturday dump

Image
Last week I had a bunch of blog posts .. did I spoil ya?  Yeah, we got back into a school schedule this week and the time flew away from me. Plus I took out a quilt that has been sitting next to my bed for a long time, taunting me every time I walk into my room, and I started to actually quilt again! Oh, it is nice to sit and watch Cosby Show reruns, or family home videos, and rock that needle back and forth through the quilt layers. I also started running regularly again. I have finally gotten rid of the nasty cold my sweet kids shared with me, and I can talk without coughing. So since we signed up for a 5k on Thanksgiving morning, I am having the kids run with me every other day. Some have made it up to 2 miles. Some haven't gotten past the first mile. Thursday morning is going to be fun! SO, last Saturday, as in a week ago - my girl had a swim meet.  I finally got the photos uploaded from the meet and the short walk out onto the beach.     ...

Marching along

Can it really be a week since I posted on here? Time got away from me. Life was busy. And then my Internet went out. And the power was out too. I had a great post in my mind, made up while I was running last week, but it was one of the days I didn't have access to Internet .. and now it lost forever. Not a big loss ... The kids have been working on their pinewood derby cars this weekend. The Awana Grand Prix race is next Saturday and we have 4 kids entering their creations. G. might enter another car too. And Grandpa too. Here is my daughter, the tomato. Seriously, this is what she called herself. I just laugh and enjoy her imagination. When I saw her in all-red outfit I thought "Rahjneesh". Thankfully she thought tomato. A few weekends ago the oldest girl cut her hair. Since then, the next-in-line has been waiting for her turn to get her hair cut and sent in to Locks of Love. Saturday was the day. It was much more difficult for me to...

Weekend recap

Image
And what a weekend it was! I had to spend all of yesterday just catching up on what I didn't get done on the weekend. It started Friday night with an auction and dinner out for me and G. A night out without the children ! Even though our kids don't attend the school that is part of our church, we went to the auction anyway and had a terrific time! There was a silent auction before the dinner and an oral auction afterward. I must have my father's genes in this area. I see an empty auction bid sheet and I feel bad; it looked so forlorn and lonely that I just have to put my number on it. Okay, so I didn't put it on all the empty ones, just the ones I might even be remotely interested in. And that is how I ended up with a Marie Callendar's pie; and tickets for an aquatic center for $6. Our anniversary date night is already planned too. G scored tickets to the symphony for a great price! On Saturday my baby girl got her first shoes. And she hates them. She has always ...

Annual Photo

Image
It's that time again. Our annual shoe photo time. We changed a little from last year - added another set of feet. Some feet have grown, and outgrown, shoes. Can you see how the third from the right are now larger than mine (the second from the right) ? Some have stayed the same. Here we have our church shoes. Since baby K usually wears socks - no shoes stay on her feet - that's what we used for the picture.
