Catch Up - May

Image
June is almost over and I still have so much to say about the month of May! The month brought a lot of projects for the older two kids at away-school. The Girl has to make a Rube-Goldberg like contraption for her science class, utilizing different tools. She did a great job, all on her own, to make the marble(s) roll through the different parts without stopping. Mother's Day. It seems like a long time ago. It was a great day of relaxing and doing nothing! It seems like we are always on the GO, so a day without any responsibility or place to be is a perfect day for me.  The Mr. and the kids also finished the drainage project in May. I hauled a couple of loads of gravel, and they filled in the hole. Now we can get back to some basketball.  And we helped out Grandpa with some of the planting at the farm. Of course, by now this scene looks different (I'll have to get an updated photo when we go out this week), but the little fingers in our household helped put in some o...

Crikey!

Can you guess what we are watching in our household tonight? My husband and I grew up watching Wild Kingdom, with Marlin Perkins. Remember that?? My kids have the Crikey! man - Steve Irwin. We love to watch his shows, "Croc Files" is the one for tonight. We get them from Netflix, and we all enjoy them. That guy was ... a piece of work. His wife is from Oregon, which is pretty cool itself. She reminds me a lot of one of my sister-in-laws, in looks and in demeanor, and adventure. We were all very saddened the day we heard the news of Steve Irwin;s death back in 2006. But we love watching the shows. I think I wrote about this once a few years back. My son had just watched some croc wrestling, and had gone outside to wrestle our huge Lab. And that dog didn't mind a bit; he didn't fight back like a croc, but the Boy had a good time anyway. The sickness has hit our household. Last week my oldest had a fever which transitioned into a bad cold. This week little K. had the ...

Summer

Image
Summer is going by so fast. Yesterday our girl found a 4 leaf clover! She was hanging on the swings in the backyard, just staring at the ground, she says, and whamo - there it was. The boy washed the dog today, and enjoyed some water himself. And I have another project. You know, for all that spare time I have on my hands. My sister in-law pieced the squares I had cut out. (I just can't get enough Irish Chain quilts!) So now I get to put the backing on and work on the part I love to do: the quilting! The colors in the photo didn't come out quite right - a little dark/ blue. There is much more purple in it than blue. And the backing will be an aquamarine color.

Projects

I took some time this weekend, while the sun was shining, to work in the garage. This led to an "Aha!" moment. I decided to set up a table and my sewing machine in the corner of our front room where we had had our Christmas tree this year! Now I can sew while the baby is awake, and she can't get into my stuff. I am also hoping to get some of our photo albums taken care of! I am behind about 2 years. Oh, and the baby albums - they all need work! I also have a couple of other projects on my mind. For awhile now I have been wanting to put together a photo directory of the extended family for my kids to use. Sometimes we mention Aunt Somebody, and the kids aren't always sure which aunt we are taking about. With such a large extended family, I thought this kind of thing would help us keep track. I plan to also add in things like favorite color, favorite cookie, favorite ice cream, etc. and then this should help at Christmas time when we are coming up with ideas for cousin...
