A new season

Image
Time for something new around here: Track season! (he's the boy in the middle) Our son had his first track meet today.  In the past he has run in city wide summer fun meets.  But the last time he did that he was about 8 years old I think. Today was a new experience for him; although we have been to plenty of track meets for the cousins, this time the Boy got to run. He took on the 200 m dash today, the 1x400 relay, and the long jump.  And I was impressed and pleased with all he did. No, he didn't get first place, or jump the farthest,  but he was out there giving it a good try, and had a smile on his face the entire time. That's what I like to see! The weather cooperated nicely - sunshine all day and no wind. What more could you ask for at a track meet?! And I love track meets. I started running in junior high, and up through high school. I even made it to the state finals in a relay at least twice. One of my brothers made it to state al...

Crikey!

Can you guess what we are watching in our household tonight? My husband and I grew up watching Wild Kingdom, with Marlin Perkins. Remember that?? My kids have the Crikey! man - Steve Irwin. We love to watch his shows, "Croc Files" is the one for tonight. We get them from Netflix, and we all enjoy them. That guy was ... a piece of work. We were all very saddened the day we heard the news of Steve Irwin;s death back in 2006. But we love watching the shows. I think I wrote about this once a few years back. My son had just watched some croc wrestling, and had gone outside to wrestle our huge Lab. And that dog didn't mind a bit; he didn't fight back like a croc, but the Boy had a good time anyway. The sickness has hit our household. Last week my oldest had a fever which transitioned into a bad cold. This week little K. had the ...

Band of brothers

I went running this morning. I often write blog posts inside my head while I run. It helps the mile(s) go by easily, and keeps me distracted. In high school cross-country I would make up stories while I ran. If I could run with a keyboard attached somehow I would be cranking out the posts and stories. For now, I am technologically challenged, and don't have a smartphone, and just have to try and remember what is in my brain. At my age it's getting to be harder to do that. But that's not what I was thinking of this morning. Today as I ran I was thinking of my brothers. I often ran from them when I was little. But now they aren't so bad. I'm actually kind of beginning to like them. This weekend they are building a fence. 6 of the 7 boys, plus our bonus brother - the one who married into the family - are building a fence for my sister. That statement might not seem like much in and of itself. But it smacks of a great deal more than just building a fence. It says ...
